My Story
The Journey Behind Guided Growth Training
My name is Angie Slusar, and I have been working with autistic individuals, children with developmental disabilities, and their families for the past 10 years. I currently work as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), a role I have held for the past 3 years, providing supervision to Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and BCBA trainees while supporting families through behavior consultation and parent coaching.
I completed both of my degrees at James Madison University in Virginia. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Special Education, followed by a Masters of Education where I specialized in behavior analysis within the school setting. During graduate school, I was fortunate to receive exceptional supervision and mentorship while completing all of my fieldwork hours in public school and day school settings. The quality of training I received not only prepared me to pass the BCBA exam on my first attempt, but also gave me the confidence and clinical skills needed to enter the field feeling prepared. I recognize that many aspiring behavior analysts do not have access to this level of mentorship, which is why I am passionate about providing meaningful supervision, practical training, and ongoing support to future clinicians as they work toward certification and professional growth.
As my career has progressed, I have become increasingly passionate about helping not only future behavior analysts, but also the families I serve. Over the years, I have seen firsthand the incredible impact that parent coaching can have on a family's daily life. Some of my favorite moments are hearing parents tell me about things they once thought were impossible—going grocery shopping without worrying about a tantrum, attending family outings with confidence, sitting down for meals together, or simply feeling less stressed and more connected with their child.
Through my work, I also began to notice a significant gap in access to services. Many families were being denied insurance coverage, faced restrictions on what goals could be addressed during treatment, or were stuck on lengthy waitlists waiting for support. Other families had children who did not meet criteria for a diagnosis but were still struggling with challenging behaviors, communication difficulties, emotional regulation, or daily routines. These parents often had nowhere to turn for practical guidance and support.
That is why I created private-pay parent coaching services. By offering remote coaching, I can provide support to families without the barriers often created by insurance requirements, waitlists, or diagnoses. Parent coaching allows families to access evidence-based strategies quickly, receive individualized support, and begin making meaningful changes in their daily lives right away.
I truly believe no parent should feel like they are drowning, navigating challenges alone, or unable to access help when they need it most. My goal is to empower parents with practical, actionable strategies that improve behavior, teach meaningful skills, and create more positive experiences for the entire family. Whether it's increasing safety, improving communication, reducing challenging behaviors, or helping families enjoy everyday activities together, I am passionate about helping parents feel confident and supported every step of the way.
My goal is to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families while also helping develop the next generation of behavior analysts through high-quality mentorship, evidence-based practices, and individualized support.
My Mission: To bridge the gap in access to behavioral services through evidence-based, practical guidance that empowers parents and prepares aspiring BCBAs for a fulfilling clinical journey.
